I Have Been There! - by Pastor David
I Know What Suicide Is! I Have Been Exactly Where You Are Right Now!
I have been there many times! I want to share from my heart with you today!
I have been where you are right now. I have been in serious pain just like you. I wanted to take my own life when I was 13 years old, 14 years old, 15 years old, 16 years old, 17 years old, 18 years old, 19 years old, 20 years old, 21 years old, 22 years old, 23 years old and at 24 years old. I think you get the picture, I didn’t like myself or my life. I was in constant fear and pain. My sister who was 1 year older than me could not take the pain and fear any longer and ended her life.
I grew up in a family where there was no love. Just physical and mental torment. I didn’t know what was going to happen next or what part of my body was going to get beat up and bruised next.
I lived in constant fear and torment. I should have died so many times, but that was just the start of my pain, my sorrow and the broken heart I had for so many years, but there is good news. I am still here, right now I am talking with you, I made it through and so can you.
What happened? Why are you still alive? Good question and I have a good answer. And it’s not what you think.
I had a grandmother that prayed for me. She lived 1,800 miles away from me. I never got to see her. She prayed for me just like I am praying for you right now. That is right! I am praying for you as you are reading the words of this page.
Please listen to me when I say it is not easy to live in this world. It is not easy. There is pain. You will feel like you can not go on any longer in this life; but I am telling you right now with tears in my eyes, YOU CAN! You can go on! It is not easy but thank God He is right there with you right now. He loves you so, so dearly! He loves you so much! He does not want you to hurt yourself!
I read a story to you about a man in the bible that wanted to take his own life. He was a jailer, a man in charge of prisioners. At this time in history he would be punished by death if any of his prisoners were to escape the jail he guarded.
Let’s read this story together.
With out a warning a huge earthquake happened! The jailhouse tottered, every door flew open, all the prisoners were loose.
Startled from sleep, the jailer saw all the doors swinging loose on their hinges. Assuming that all the prisoners had escaped, he pulled out his sword and was about to do himself in, figuring he was as good as dead anyway, when a prisoner named Paul stopped him: “Don’t do that! Don’t hurt yourself! We’re all still here! Nobody’s run away!”
The jailer got a torch and ran inside. Badly shaken, he collapsed in front of Paul and Silas (two of the prisoners). He led them out of the jail and asked, “Sirs, what do I have to do to be saved, to really live?” They said, “Put your entire trust in the Master Jesus. Then you’ll live as you were meant to live—and everyone in your house included!”
Paul and Silas went on to spell out in detail the story of the Jesus—the entire family got in on this part. They never did get to bed that night. The jailer made them feel at home, dressed their wounds, and then—he couldn’t wait till morning!—was baptized, he and everyone in his family. There in his home, he had food set out for a festive meal. It was a night to remember: He and his entire family had put their trust in God; everyone in the house was in on the celebration.
At daybreak, the court judges sent officers with the instructions, “Release these prisoners.” The jailer gave Paul the message, “The judges sent word that you’re free to go on your way. Congratulations! Go in peace!” *
The jailer was not punished. Everything turned out alright! This man could have ended his life, but he didn’t. The man named Paul stopped him by saying, “Don’t do that! Don’t hurt yourself!” This is what I am saying to you today! “Don’t do that! Don’t hurt yourself!” God loves you so much!
Life is not always a bed of roses, it is not always pretty. It is not always a fairy tale with a happy ending, in life we will have problems, sometimes they will be bigger than others; but can I tell you something! You can and will get through this time in your life. Things are changing! Things can change very quickly in your life for the better. Give God some time, if you will give God some time He can do miracles. Yes you wait and see!! So don’t hurt yourself, give God some time, He has a wonderful future for you.
God is saying this to you today:
“I have good plans for you. I don’t plan to hurt you. I plan to give you hope and a good future.”** This is exciting!!! He has a beautiful plan and future for you! So don’t give up hope!! And the good thing is like myself you will be able to help others in the future when they are struggling emotionally and having a hard time. Other people need you. The biggest gift you can give to another person is life! You can save a life too!!
God loves you so much and I do too!!
