Prosperity

Let them shout for joy, and be glad, that favour my righteous cause: yea, let them say continually, Let the Lord be magnified, which hath pleasure in the prosperity of his servant.

Psalm 35:27 (KJV)

And God is able to make all grace (every favor and earthly blessing) come to you in abundance, so that you may always and under all circumstances and whatΒ ever the need, be self-sufficientβ€”possessing enough to require no aid or support and furnished in abundance for every good work and charitable donation....And [God] Who provides seed for the sower and bread for eating will also provide and multiply your [resources for] sowing, and increase the fruits of your righteousΒ ness....Thus you will be enriched in all things and in every way, so that you can be generous, [and your genΒerosity as it is] administered by us will bring forth thanksgiving to God.

2 Corinthians 9: 8,10-11(AMP)

The Purpose of Prosperity - Jerry Savelle

I believe we are going to have to raise our level of thinking where prosperity is concerned. Too many of us are not yet on God's level of thought. To show you what I mean, let's look at that scripture which promises us that the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.

That sounds like a marvelous promise to the believer and it is; but let's examine the first part of that verse: "A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just" (Prov. 13:22).

Now God's idea of prosperity is not just our having a bare minimum, just enough to meet our own needs. To God we are not fully prosperous until we have enough to meet our current needs, plenty to give to meet the needs of others, and then on top of that, enough left over to leave an inheritance for two succeeding generations!

Now I surely don't mean to imply that I have reached that level of divine prosperity yet. I haven't. Few Christians have. But that doesn't mean that it is not available to us. I believe God wants to raise up some modern-day, New Testament Abrahams. People who are blessed, and who can be a blessing to "all the families of the earth."

Why not? If the heavyweight boxing champion of the world can go into a ring and earn $35 million dollars in 90 seconds, then surely God can find ways of supplying His children with enough riches to bless millions of people around the globe.

But isn't it amazing that a prominent sports figure can "earn" millions of dollars a year, and be made to look good in the headlines? But if a preacher gets even so much as fine new car, he gets "headlines" of a very different sort!

But that really doesn't matter. The important thing that more and more of us are going to be blessed and prospered of the Lord in the days to come. That is all part of God's overall plan for the salvation of the world.

He is going to "transfer" some of the wealth of the sinner to some of us (the righteous) so we can have the means to publish this Gospel throughout all the world; as He has expressly commanded us to do. Mark 16:15 says, "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature."

There are millions of people who have yet to hear the old, old story. And you and I are responsible for getting it to them. God wants us to prosper. He wants us to be blessed. Of course, He doesn't want us to allow money to come between us and Him. But at the same time, He doesn't want us to get the mistaken idea that it is impossible to have money and still serve Him. Abraham had riches, and he served the Lord faithfully. So did Isaac. So did several others in Scripture.

Yes, the Bible does warn us about allowing material goods to interfere with our spirituality. The Bible does say that prosperity destroys fools (Prov. 1:32). But you and I are not supposed to be fools, we are supposed to be wise sons and daughters of God. As children of the King, we ought to have sense enough to know how to handle our Father's estate.

Fools are destroyed by prosperity. But you and I have access to the mind and wisdom of God. We don't have to be foolish with prosperity, and thus be destroyed by it. We can use it wisely for God's purposes.

And the Bible indicates that if we are seed-minded rather than need-minded, God can trust us to handle His goods, knowing that they will be directed to those who need them most. He knows that we can be trusted to meet our own needs, and then to go on and give generously to meet the needs of those around us.

Look at what Paul says about God's purpose in prospering us: "For God who gives seed to the farmer to plant, and later on, good crops to harvest and eat, will give you more and more seed to plant and will make it grow so that you can give away more and more fruit from your harvest" (2 Cor. 9:10-11).

Yes, God will give you much so that you can give away much.

Building a Foundation of Prosperity - Gloria Copeland

Before God ever created the earth for His family, He set in motion certain laws and principles by which heaven and earth have to abide:

The Lord formed and brought me [Wisdom] forth at the beginning of His way, before His acts of old. I [Wisdom] was inaugurated and ordained from everlasting, from the beginning, before ever the earth existed.
(Prov. 8:22-23 AMP)

God has always wanted to bless His people. And when we build our lives on His principles of wisdom that He has set into motion, we will prosper in every area of our lives.

When God speaks, His power is in His words to bring them to pass. So when we latch onto His words, depositing them in our hearts and mouths and acting on them in faith, we are building a foundation of prosperity to help us live successfully on this earth.

So Much To Learn
When Ken and I were first born again and filled with the Holy Spirit, we didn't really know anything about God's principles of spiritual prosperity.

For instance, we didn't know that healing belonged to us, so we just let sickness stay when it came to our home.

But later we found out that Jesus bore our sicknesses and carried our disease (Isa. 53:4). We learned how to resist sickness and disease.

When sickness came, we began to stand against it, in the name of Jesus, saying, "No, you aren't the will of God, and you aren't staying in my body!" or "You aren't staying in my child!"

We told sickness that it had to go in Jesus' Name!

However, we didn't know to handle poverty and lack the same way. Our financial situation was still the major problem in our lives.

We had learned that financial prosperity was the will of God, but I didn't have the revelation yet to resist poverty as I would sickness.

I remember right where I was the day I realized that. We were living in Fort Worth, Texas, and I was looking out the window toward downtown when the Lord spoke to my heart.

He revealed to me that we were to talk to lack in the same way we had learned to talk to sickness and disease. I said, "Lack, I rebuke you, in Jesus' Name. Get out of my life! You are not the will of God for me. I resist you, in Jesus' Name."

God Wants Us to Prosper
I'm telling you, poverty is not the will of God. It's a curse, and so is lack! (Deut. 28). God doesn't want you laboring under poverty and lack.

He doesn't want your time spent worrying, "How am I going to pay my light bill?" That's not the will of God for you.

It's always been God's desire for His family to prosper. That's why He instructs us in the way of wisdom:

That I may cause those who love me to inherit [true] riches and that I may fill their treasuries.
(Prov. 8:21 AMP)

Wisdom brings us both spiritual and earthly blessings. But we don't apply God's principles just to acquire material wealth.

We apply them because He is our God and we want to honor and obey Him in every area. You can't just say, "Well, I want to prosper, so I'm going to look up all the scriptures on prosperity and ignore everything else in the Word."

No, that won't work. Prospering in God is a lifestyle of doing the Word - all of it! The more we know about God and His wisdom, the easier it is to prosper in Him.

Lodge In Goodness - Gloria Copeland

God wanted the Israelites to walk in their dreams. He wants me to walk in my dreams, and He wants you to walk in yours.
Psalm 25:12-13 NKJ says, "Who is the man that fears the Lord? Him shall He teach in the way He chooses. He himself shall dwell in prosperity, and his descendants shall inherit the earth."

One translation of that verse says that the man who fears the Lord shall "lodge in goodness." That's wonderful, isn't itβ€”to live in a place that's a manifestation of the goodness of the Lord!

I can tell you from personal experience just how wonderful it is. From the beginning of my faith walk, I began believing for the right place to live. Since the reality of God's Word came into our lives, God has always given us a good home to live in.

Our homes were not always big or fancy, but each one was a blessing to us. The first one was just a little house, but every time we moved, the Lord increased us.

Because I enjoy beautiful surroundings, through the years I cut out pictures and made notes of things I wanted in my dream home, which I believed we would someday build. I drew plans of my idea of the ideal house, changing them as I went along until, after many years, I had a clear idea of what I wanted.

I can honestly say I was under no pressure even though the manifestation of it did not come for a long time. I still believed it would and I was in peace.

I prayed for about five years over whether to build or not because I knew time was short, and I did not want to waste time and effort building if Jesus were coming before I occupied it! I also prayed about the wisdom of God for this project. I prayed and listened for direction.

One day I went into a new home that was for sale. It was totally furnished and beautiful. I thought, I could just move in here! I got acquainted with the builder and began to work on plans. This took a couple of years while still praying about when to start and believing for the money to build and furnish it.

The plans were finished and it was time to act. Ken and I took some time off to pray and be sure this was the will of God for us at that time.

(Timing is everything. The Bible says, "Prepare thy work without, and make it fit for thyself in the field; and afterwards build thine house" (Prov. 24:27). Psalm 127:1 says, "Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it...." I did not want to go through all that effort in vain!)

I enjoyed the home I had, and I would have been content to stay there, if that's what He had wanted me to do.

But the Lord let us know that it pleased Him to give it to us. So, we selected a site and began to build.

I don't mind telling you, that house is such a demonstration to me of God's goodness that almost every time I walk into it, I feel like shouting and dancing a little! It seems almost too good to be true.

One day just as the construction was being finished, I walked around it and thought, This is so wonderful, I feel like I'm in a dream. Suddenly, I realized that was scriptural. Psalm 126 says:

When the Lord turned again the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dream. Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing: then said they among the heathen, The Lord hath done great things for them. The Lord hath done great things for us; whereof we are glad.
(Ps. 126: 1-3)

God wanted the Israelites to walk in their dreams. He wants me to walk in my dreams, and He wants you to walk in yours.

Covenant Prosperity - Kenneth Copeland

"But thou shalt remember the Lord thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant" (Deut. 8:18).

What is God's reason for prospering His people? Is it so we can watch bigger TVs? So we can buy finer houses and more luxurious cars?

Establishing God's covenant on the earth and giving to those in need: Those are God's purposes for prosperity!

I've had some people tell me, "Well, Brother Copeland, Jesus' ministry was poor and He got along just fine." That's ridiculous. All the way through the Old Testament, God promised material blessings to anyone who would walk perfectly and uprightly before Him. If God had failed to bless Jesus financially, He would have been breaking His own Word.

Jesus never built a worldly empire for Himself. But that doesn't mean He was poor. It means He was the greatest giver who ever walked the face of this earth - and it's about time we started following in His footsteps.

If we'll start giving, if we'll start taking care of the needs in people's pocketbooks, we'll be far more likely to win their hearts.

What do you think will happen to the heart of a starving nation when you bring in a 747 full of food, clothes and medical supplies to them in the Name of Jesus and His love? The hearts of those people are going to soften! They're going to be willing to listen to what we have to say about Jesus.

Don't you ever let anyone tell you it's wrong to want to prosper. It's wrong for you not to want to prosper when that prosperity can mean the difference between heaven and hell for millions of people.

Forget about your own little needs. Raise your vision and set your mind on giving to meet someone else's, on establishing God's covenant in the earth. Then stand fast in faith and get ready to enjoy the greatest prosperity you've ever known.
