Helps - A Supernatural Ministry

Together We Are Building God’s Kingdom!

And God has appointed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, HELPS, administrations, varieties of tongues.

1 Corinthians 12:28 (NKJV)

The Supernatural Ministry of Helps - Pastor David Breed

THE JOY OF SERVING JESUS

The Apostle Paul told us in the book of Colossians that everything we do in our lives we need to do for the kingdom of God. We do it for God’s purpose and to Glorify Him.

Colossians 3:23-24 (CEB)

23 Whatever you do, do it from the heart for the Lord and not for people. 24 You know that you will receive an inheritance as a reward. You serve the Lord Christ.

It is a joy to serve Jesus Christ with all of our hearts. It is a joy to have a purpose in God’s kingdom.

YOUR SUPERNATURAL PLACE IN YOUR LOCAL CHURCH

Did you know you have a supernatural place in the body of Jesus Christ?

There's a supernatural reason and purpose for you and for your church in the earth today, God doesn't do anything by mistake.

God is a good God. God places people in His church as they come into His Kingdom. He places His desires, and His gifts inside each member of the church.

If you have a business it's not just for your success, but for the success of your church.

Everyone has a part in the earth today through his body and you are an important part of what God is doing in the earth today!

God has a plan and a purpose for your life and if you will let Him, He will bring it to pass, because He loves you and you are important to Him.

No good father leaves any of his children out of anything he does, all of his children are invited to participate in his family activities, his church.

THE PURPOSE FOR THE LOCAL CHURCH

The apostle Paul makes this very clear in first Corinthians chapter 12, let's study this together.

1 Corinthians 12:13 (NKJV)

13 For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and have all been made to drink into one Spirit.

“By One Spirit… we have been all made to drink into one Spirit”. Paul is talking here about the unity of the Body of Christ. Our heavenly Father wants us all to be in unity working together in our church.

God sees His church as a very important part of what's happening on the earth today.

Did you know you have supernatural giftings and anointings for the purpose of serving in the Body of Christ?

1 Corinthians 12:18 (NKJV)

18 But now God has set the members, each one of them, in the body just as He pleased.

“But NOW God has set members”, “Who set these members in the church?” God sets members in the church - Everyone of them as it pleased Him. God has set you in a local church as it has pleased Him.

YOU ARE PLEASING GOD BY COMING TO CHURCH

1 Corinthians 12:27 (NKJV)

27 Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually.

Vs 27 says that…”You are the Body Of Christ!” You are the body of Christ.

You are in a local church for a specific reason. God wants you in a local church. Why is that? He wants people to come together as a family, love one another and work together for His purpose in the earth today.

THE SUPERNATURAL MINISTRY CALLED HELPS

In the next verse we will see Paul talks about all the supernatural gifts God has given to the church. To the local church!

1 Corinthians 12:28 (NKJV)

28 And God has appointed these in the church: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, HELPS, administrations, varieties of tongues.

Each gift Paul is mentioning here is a Supernatural Gift given by God. Each one of these supernatural gifts are gifts God has given to you and to the city you live in.

Did you notice in the supernatural gifts given to the local church Paul said Helps? Whoa, what’s that doing there in the supernatural Gifts given to His church?

This Scripture reveals some very important truths:

1. Helps is a ministry ordained and anointed by God Himself. It is divinely set in the Church for a purpose.

2. The ministry in helps is just as important as other leadership offices such as the apostle and prophet.

3. It is a supernatural ministry such as miracles and healing.

Do you mean if I operate the soundboard, help in the children’s ministry, clean the church building, greet the people, serve as an usher, work in the church office or anything else I do for my church I am in the supernatural ministry called helps? - YES, that is correct!

Every time you do something for the church, you are in a supernatural position in the body of Christ. You are helping the church of Jesus Christ, you are promoting the kingdom of God and you are in a supernatural position. Yes that’s You! There is a suoernatral grace that comes on you are you serve the Lord in your local church.

THE SUPERNATURAL HELPS MINISTRY SIMPLIFIED

God has set “the helps ministry” in the church, because the local church needs help carrying out the vision God has given it. Every local church has a unique calling and personality, each church needs help in carrying out the mission and calling God has placed on that local body.

The pastor of a church can be likened to the captain of a ship. The captain sets the course, steers the ship, calls the directions, determines the port of call, and even the type of mission; but he requires the help from a crew to get the ship up and running.

YOUR PASTORS SUPERNATURAL GIFT IS FROM GOD

God puts a desire and a vision inside of a persons heart to be a minister in the body of Christ. If God calls a person to become a pastor, that pastor or will be a gift to the city. Why is that? Because God put that city in their heart and a local church is God’s gift to a city.

There is a vision that God will give to His local church. Each local church God has called He will give a specific vision and purpose. He gives His vision and purpose to the pastor of that church. After all God has placed them as a pastor in that local community. Remember your pastor is a gift to your church and your church is a gift to your city, your state, your country and to the world.

The supernatural gift of a pastor needs a lot of supernatural gifts called helps. These supernatural gifts propel that pastor's gift and the local church to a place where God called them and the local church to go. These gifts are very important to God.

The pastor can't touch everyone in the church every Sunday but we as members can. We can reach out and greet someone, shake their hand, have a big smile on our face, and make their day. We can take care of children during a service and change a child's life forever as they hear for the first time about Jesus. As we serve our pastor and we are serving our church, and we are serving Jesus.

HOW I LEARNED ABOUT THIS SUPERNATURAL MINISTRY

God has a call on your church. We all have our part to do whether it's prayer, sound, children, worship, hospitality or other areas of a local church, God's kingdom is being built and established as we serve our church.

The supernatural helps gift that God gives to you will lift your church and your pastor to a supernatural place, a place that God desires it to be, a place of serving Him and His kingdom.

I remembered when I first gave my life to Jesus Christ I asked God what he wanted me to do with my life. I was surprised at His answer to me. He asked me a question.

God asked me, “What's the vision of your church? I was so surprised and shocked by His question.

I said to Him, “Well whatever it is it is.”

He answered me back very quickly, “NO, you need to know what part of the vision of the church is for you, and stick to what the part of the vision is yours, and as you do you will be serving me.”

OK, I asked the Lord what's my part?

He said, “Serve the pastor”.

I said, “What?”

I had never heard anyone talk in the church about this before. God was telling me that He needs people and wants people in their local church to serve their pastor and serve the vision He gives them. In serving His church and His pastors we are serving Him and His plans on the earth.

God continued talking to me and said, “You need to pray for them.” He was talking to me about the pastor and his wife.

I said, “Me? All these other people in the church are praying for them. Why should I?”

He said, “You pray for them. You need to push them in prayer to a place where they need to be. Do you know how much they do during the week for Me and My Kingdom?”

I said, “No”. But I once I hooked up to the plan and started serving them I saw how much they were doing for the kingdom of God. I found out by serving them that I could do my part and serve Jesus under them.

The pastors gift carries a supernatural grace. This supernatural grace gives them abilities to do their part for the kingdom of God.

God also gives the other supernatural gifts to pastors called helps. God gives supernatural endowments, talents and gifts to people to help pastors and their local church with the vision God has given to them.

But someone might say, “But I am only helping and that puts me in a lower position in the church.” No, it doesn’t. It is a very precious position in the sight of God. It is a supernatural position to be in the helps ministry and help Jesus build His kingdom.

Remember, we are working together to build His kingdom on the earth.

YOUR GIFTS AND TALENTS ARE FROM GOD

Everything that the supernatural helps ministry does in the local church has God in it. It should. It should have God stamped all over it. People need to realize this.

We read earlier that Paul said in 1 Corinthians chapter 12 that you are in a supernatural position when you place yourself under the supernatural pastors gift.

GOD IN THE CHURCH BOOKSTORE

One day my pastor put me in charge over our church bookstore. I was excited about the opportunity and knew I could make it look better, I thought it was a little drab looking and I thought I could spice things up a bit. I was looking at moving a large amount of books from one side of the store to the other side of the store.

As I started moving books God spoke to me and said, “What are you doing? Don’t move those books, that's the way the pastor likes it. David, you must learn to do things the way the pastors likes doing them, and whatever way I have told him to do things that’s the way I want you to do it.”

I fought with God. I was very upset and wanted to do things my way. I thought my way was better.

He went on to lovingly tell me, “David, please, no matter what he wants, do it that way, do it for me, do it for My Kingdom.”

God knows what he's doing folks and the pastor has the anointing to do the job, he has been trained up for that position.

As we are in the helps ministry we need to find out with the pastor likes and what God has told them to do. If God told them a certain way to do something, we need to do it that way and we will be blessed.

BIBLICAL EXAMPLES OF THE SUPERNATURAL HELPS MINISTRY

Helps is doing the work of God.

Below is a list of biblical examples of people participating in the supernatural ministry of helping God’s leaders. The Kingdom of God needs your help. You have an important role to play. (Note: An asterisk (*) denotes a future leader.)

Watch for the following fruit from an active supernatural ministry of helps:

1. Burdens are relieved off of leadership.

2. Leadership is refreshed and encouraged.

3. Finances are increased for God’s cause.

4. Future leaders are raised up and trained.

5. There is unity of vision, purpose and of faith.

6. There is an increase of God’s anointing.

7. God’s plan is accomplished.

  1. Adam and Eve in the Garden (Genesis 2:15): It was God’s Garden and He put man and woman in the Garden to dress it and keep it. They were God’s first supernatural helps team. They worked together and were both helping God accomplish His vision and plan for the earth.

  2. Eve to Adam (Genesis 2:18-25): God declared that it wasn’t good for Adam to be alone. He needed a “help meet”: a helper comparable to him to help him complete what God had called him to do. Adam could not do it alone. It is important for us to know that. They were the first supernatural helps couple. They were a mighty team and working together they changed the world. God loves couples and teams working together, this was God’s plan all along. They set the stage for Jesus to come into the earth and save all humanity (Revelation 13:8). (also see #25 *Priscilla and *Aquila)

  3. *Joseph in prison (Genesis 39:20-23): Joseph was set over all the inner workings of the prison; “and whatsoever they did there, he (Joseph) was the doer of it.” Joseph was so faithful, the prison keeper didn’t ever bother to inspect his work. Joseph was an expert at the helps ministry.

  4. *Aaron to Moses (Exodus 4:10-17): Moses had lost his fluency in the language of the Egyptians (he’d been away from them for 40 years). Out of fear, he desired a translator. Aaron became his spokesman and his helps minister.

  5. *Joshua to Moses (Exodus 17:8-10): Joshua was Moses’ military leader and servant. He was Moses helps minister. This was great training for the day ahead when Joshua would lead Israel in battle after battle to take the Promised Land.

  6. Aaron and Hur to Moses (Exodus 17:11-12): Moses had to have men hold his arms up so that Israel could win the battle. This is the helps ministry in action.

  7. Moses’ Builders (Exodus 31:1-11; 35:30-35; 36:1-3): Two men are named specifically: Bezaleel and Aholiab. God filled them with the Holy Spirit in wisdom and knowledge to build the tabernacle. God gave Moses the plans and directions, but God equipped other men to make it happen.

  8. Moses’ Judges (Exodus 18:13-26): 17 “It’s not right!” his father-in-law exclaimed. 18 “You’re going to wear yourself out—and if you do, what will happen to the people? Moses, this job is too heavy a burden for you to try to handle all by yourself. These 120 men helped Moses care for the people so that he and the people wouldn’t wear out.

  9. Moses’ 70 Elders (Numbers 11:10-17,24-30): Moses complained about the burden of the people, so God anointed 70 men with the same spirit that was upon Moses, to help him bear the burden.

  10. *David to Saul (1 Samuel 16:19-23): After Saul’s fall, David became Saul’s armorbearer and comforter, playing the harp for him when he was troubled by evil spirits. His heart honored Saul even after Saul’s death.

  11. Jonathan’s Armorbearer (1 Samuel 14:4-16): An armorbearer was one who accompanied his master into battle carrying the armor and weaponry so that master would not be exhausted upon arrival. Jonathan’s armorbearer carried two things: his master’s weaponry and his master’s vision. “Do all that is in thine heart...I am with thee according to thy heart.” The TLB says, “Do as you think best; I’m with you heart and soul, whatever you decide.” This support led to a supernatural and miraculous victory.

  12. David’s Mighty Men: They conquered cities, killed enemies, built cities, helped run the kingdom, and even fetched David some water, simply because he asked for it.

  13. Solomon’s Helps Governments (1 Kings 4:1-25): Solomon, the wisest man to ever live, had 11 officials helping him run his administration, and he had 12 governors ruling over the kingdom under him. “And Judah and Israel dwelt safely and confidently....all the days of Solomon.”

  14. Solomon’s Helps Teams (1 Kings 5:13-16): Solomon had 183,300 laborers working on the temple: 30,000 lumberjacks, 70,000 general laborers, 80,000 stonecutters, and 3300 managers. All of these workers were used to build the temple that God would then mightily manifest in. (3.85 billion man-hours. For Solomon to build the Temple alone, it would take him 440,705 years).

  15. *Elisha to Elijah (1 Kings 19:19-21; 2 Kings 2:1-14, 3:11): Elisha left all he knew to become a servant. He was faithful to the very end and would not leave his leader. The world knew him as he “which poured water on the hands of Elijah,” but we know him as the prophet that wrought twice as many miracles as Elijah. He was a supernatural helps minister in training.

  16. *The 12 disciples to Jesus (Matthew 19:13-14, 21:2-3, 26:18-19, Mark 6:36-41): The disciples didn’t just sit and learn all day. They were involved in preparing meetings, feeding the multitudes, preparing dinners, receiving offerings, running security, praying with Jesus, fetching transportation, managing the money, and serving the poor.

  17. *Barnabas to the local churches (Acts 4:36-37; 9:26-28; 11:22-30): Barnabas faithfully served the church at Jerusalem and then Antioch. He faithfully supported the church financially and was a dependable delivery and errand boy. He earned the leadership’s trust and they sent him out as an emissary to Antioch. He continued to run errands for the churches until the day of his ordination into full-time ministry as a missionary. (Acts 13:1-3). Barnabas was notable for encouraging others, the disciples nicknamed him Barnabas, meaning the son of encouragement. (See Acts 4:36.)

  18. *Paul to the local church (Acts 11:26-30): Paul faithfully served the church at Antioch; running errands for them and teaching, until the day of his ordination (Acts 13:1-3).

  19. *The First Deacons (Acts 6:1-8): These first deacons were selected for their good reputation and for being full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom. They were appointed to wait tables and care for widows, yet this allowed the Word of God to increase and the number of the disciples multiplied. Stephen, Philip, and Prochorus were promoted to greater responsibility in the Kingdom. They were an amazing team of supernatural helps ministers in action.

  20. *John Mark to Paul and Barnabas (Acts 13:1-5): When Paul and Barnabas set out on their first missionary journey, they took John Mark with them as their servant. This same John Mark went on to write the Gospel of Mark. He was first in the supernatural helps ministry and God promoted his faithfullness. He had a big heart for the things of Jesus, he was and is a great example of what the supernatural ministry of helps is all about.

  21. *Luke to Paul (Acts 21:8, Philemon 24, Colossians 4:14, 2 Timothy 4:11, 2 Cor. 13:14): Luke joined himself to “Paul’s company” and travelled with him everywhere. In the end, he was the only man that didn’t abandon Paul. No doubt he tended to Paul’s health and many injuries. He was the beloved physician. And was also a scribe or writer for Paul, going on to write the Gospel of Luke and the Book of Acts. Luke had the stick-to-it·ive·ness to never give up under any circumstances and in all situations and is one of my favorite helps ministers to read about.

  22. Phebe to the Roman Church (Romans 16:1-16): Phebe is referred to as a servant of the whole church at Cenchrea. She was also described as “succourer of the needs of many” and of Paul himself. Now that’s helps ministry. Such a help, in fact, that she is forever a part of the Bible record. The TLB says, “she has worked hard in the church there.” She is an incredible example of the supernatural ministry of helps in action.

  23. The House of Stephanas (1 Corinthians 16:15-18): This household addicted themselves to serving the saints, so much so, that Stephanas, along with Fortunatus and Achaicus, made up in an offering what the entire church of Corinth lacked; and in doing so, they refreshed Paul.

  24. *Epaphroditus to Paul and the Philippian Church (Philippians 2:24-30,4:18): Epaphroditus is called a brother, companion in labor (work), fellow soldier (work), messenger (apostle), and minister to the wants of Paul. He is called an apostle, but was used as an errand boy. He did not regard his life for the work of Christ.

  25. *Priscilla and *Aquila were a dynamic supernatural helps team. (Acts 18:2-3, 18:18, 18:26, Romans 16:3, 1 Corinthians 16:19, 2 Timothy 4:19): Aquila and Priscilla were tent makers like Paul. They were an inseparable couple. In the New Testament, this husband and wife are always mentioned together, never apart. “He (Paul) set sail for Syria, taking Priscilla and Aquila with him.” They lived, worked, and traveled with the Apostle Paul, who described them as his "my co-workers in the ministry of Christ Jesus."

I am sure there are more in the bible, but did you notice that over *24 of these individuals were in leadership training. They were first being mentored by others before they entered the calling God placed on them.

YOU ARE IMPORTANT TO GOD’S PLAN

God has a specific course for the members of each local church, most members don't know this. God puts everyone in a local church, so you get involved on your church and see what you can do to further the kingdom of God.

Well, you may ask what my part to play in my local church? It is easy, Ask God.

You may say, What if I don’t hear Him say anything?” If you don’t hear Him say anything don’t be discouraged just put your hand to an area of your local church that really needs your help. It's that easy. And let me give you some advise, don’t ask for a big position in your church. Start small. Start in a position that your church needs help in and let God promote you. Always let God promote you. I have seen so many people fall flat on their faces because they tried to make something happen, let God make it happen, let God promote you through your faithfulness to Him.

Could I be too young or too old to be involved in my church? No, you're the perfect age for God to use you. I don't care how young or old you are, God has something for you to do. We need to tell people in our churches that they have a big part to play in the Body of Christ.

My grandfather was in his 80’s and quoted scripture like a machine gun, he was bold for his Jesus. He was always at church and was a big blessing to his church. He was in the supernatural ministry of helps.

He was one of the biggest givers I know of. You haven't seen a giver until you've seen my grandpa. I have never seen anyone personally give away so much money to God’s kingdom and his money supply never went down. I know because he would show me his bank accounts and financial books. It was amazing to see how God blessed him.

He would go on trips to Las Vegas just to minister to the people and he was in his 80’s. He would go to Las Vegas, believe God to meet the right people and talk to them about his Jesus. Sometimes I would think wow what would it be like to keep up with this guy, whew, he listened to four or five sermons everyday, went to the church during the week to visit his pastor, read the Bible all the way through I don't know how many times and he got saved when he was 65.

Everybody is important to the body of Christ. Businessmen and Business women need to know how important they are to the body of Christ. They are needed to partner with their pastors, their churches, missionaries and fund the gospel in such ways to bring in this last days harvest.

Your local church is God's vision for men, women and children to work together to bring in the harvest, this is God's purpose for the Body of Christ. God has a place for everyone in the body of Christ. Everyone has a place in the supernatural ministry of helps. We are Building the Kingdom of God Together!

FOR THE KINGDOM!

The Usher - A Supernatural Gift to the Local Church

1 Corinthians 12:28

God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healing, HELPS, governments, diversities of tongues.

This Scripture reveals several important truths:

1. Your ministry is ordained and anointed by God Himself. You have been divinely set in the Church for a purpose.

2. Your ministry in helps is just as important as other leadership offices such as the apostle and prophet.

3. It is a supernatural ministry such as miracles and healing.

The word helps comes from the Greek word antilepsis or antilempsis which means “a laying hold of to help, an exchange...lay hold of, so as to support.” Its literal meaning is “one who gives assistance.”

God has set the supernatural ministry of helps into the Church to assist the Pastor. The usher in the local church falls within the supernatural ministry of helps category.

The Usher’s duties in the local church:

1. Assisting the Pastor

The usher assists the pastor and helps bring their God given vision for the local church to fulfillment. The usher’s presence will build up and add to the well- being of the local church. If the pastor stands up and says, “It’s time for an offering.” Then an army of ushers stand and come forth, that impresses people. They think, Wow, look at those people who are here to serve. The usher inspires others to serve Jesus like they are serving Jesus.

In serving the pastor the usher must always be prayed up and alert during the service. There will be times when they will need to move the pulpit, hand a microphone to the pastor or whatever is needed at a moments notice. They must always be ready to assist the pastor, as they are assisting the pastor they are assisting Jesus and the work He has called the local church to do.

2. Meeting & Greeting and Serving the People

The usher is God’s public relations man or woman and represents the church to every new visitor. Because the pastor of a church cannot personally greet all the people before a service, it is the usher’s responsibility to make visitors feel welcome and important. Ushers should greet visitors with the same warmth and love as the pastor would himself. The usher has the unique privilege to make the first, and usually lasting, impression on a person. They can ease the visitor’s transition from being uneasy and curiosity to secure and enjoyable.

Serving People

  • Warmly welcome people with an outstretched hand and smile.

  • Seat them in comfortable, accessible seats.

  • Provided them with bulletins and all necessary information from the church.

Tell the people you enjoyed their presence in the service today and how much you would like for them to come to a service again.

3. Ministry Prayer lines and Maintaining Order in Church Services

The usher is to maintain order and orchestrate movement during the service and prayer ministry lines. First Corinthians 14:40 clearly reads, Let all things be done decently and in order. One of the responsibilities as an usher is to make sure there are no disturbances in our services. They are also responsible for the protecting of the pastors and the members of the church during the service.

During the church services the pastor or guest minister might want to lay hands on people for prayer, the ushers need to be ready for these special times when God wants to move in a service.

Ministry Lines

  • Always be alert, careful and watch the pastor or guest speaker during the service.

  • If the pastor or guest speaker wants to pray for people watch for their directions on how they want the people to line up in front of the church.

  • Be available and alert to catch the people as the pastor or guest speaker is praying for them. The persons safety is very important, learn how to catch the people if they fall backwards during prayer time.

4. Receive Offerings During a Service

The usher is to receive offerings in a cheerful manner. Your attitude will affect the congregation’s willingness to give to the Lord. Offerings actually have increased in churches after ushers were taught how to receive them with joy.

Don’t allow other ushers to set down the buckets, this may tempt someone to steal the money. Always maintain accountability by having a minimum of two ushers with the church offering at all times.

5. Preparing and Taking Care of Guest Speakers

The usher may be asked by the pastor to help prepare and take care of guest speakers. There are many preparations and details when it comes to inviting a guest speaker to the local church. Many times the ushers’ ministry will care for the guest speakers before, during and after the church service. The ushers will also work side by side with other church workers to prepare and take care of guest speakers.

Always remember that the pastor has put much thought and prayed to God asking Him for the right speaker to come to the church to bring the right message the church needs. The usher must make sure the guest speakers are being taken care as the pastor is requesting. The guest ministers are an answer to prayer and are carrying a specific and timely message for the church.

6. Set Up and Tear Down During Church Events and Regular Services

The usher is always available to give a helping hand to set up and/or tear down tables and chairs during church events. Many times there will be a need to set out more chairs, tables, microphones, sound equipment, food or whatever is needed during church events or services. The usher is always willing to help. The usher knows as they help the pastor and church they are helping Jesus and His Kingdom.

7. The Heart of A Servant - Serving Jesus with Excellence

The usher must always remember to serve Jesus Christ with excellence. Whether they are serving a new guest for the first time, or a senior member of the church that has been in the church all their lives, the ushers words, actions, dress, appearance and smile must always represent Jesus with excellence.

The usher has a heart of a servant. The usher usually is always the first one at the church and the last one to leave. Always remember we are serving Jesus and His Kingdom in everything we do! Thank you for your service for the Kingdom!

FOR THE KINGDOM

The Greeter - A Supernatural Gift to the Local Church

The greeter in the local church falls within the supernatural ministry of helps category.

The Greeter - The Ambassador of Love and Service to the Local Church

Being a greeter involves more than just standing at the door, shaking people’s hands and giving them a church bulletin as they enter the church. It is a supernatural ministry.

First Corinthians 12:28 calls it the ministry of helps. Greeters are helping the pastors fulfill the vision God has given them by making those who come through the doorways of the church feel at home. Greeters help people that come to church feel joy, loved, needed, wanted and important. Greeters help people feel peace, comfort and most of all, welcomed.

Greeters also sometimes work side by side with the ushers of the church during services, special events and ministry prayer lines.

The Greeters duties in the local church:

1. Greeting First Time Visitors

As a greeter in your church, it is your primary responsibility to let visitors know they are welcome. As a visitor, they are a guest of your church. When they pass through the church doorways, it is your responsibility to see that they are served and that their needs and concerns are met. It is your responsibility to see that they are comfortable and treated hospitably.

Visitors to the church aren’t hard to spot. They alway walk into the church not knowing what to do next.  Greet the new visitors and walk them through your church building. Show them around the building. While you are walking with them, tell them what God is doing in your church. Tell them stories about how the church began and the vision God gave to your pastors. Listen to them. Remember not to do all the talking. Give them an opportunity to talk about themselves and their family. Listen carefully to all they say. Get to know them and show you care. Introduce them to other members of the church, this gets them involved with the church right away. And at the end of the service, pay close attention and introduce them to the pastors of the church and other church members. By doing this, you will make them feel at home, and they will want to come back the next week.

2. Greet Everyone and Have Fun

Hebrews 13:24 (NIV)

24 Greet all your leaders and all the Lord’s people.

As a greeter, you are not only and the ambassador of the church, you are in one big family. As a greeter you are in the church not only to make the visitors feel welcome but also to greet the pastors, leaders, members and church workers too! You are in a big family! You love your church! Don’t forget to greet your pastors and other church members too. Have fun talking with everyone in the church family.  You can do this and still keep a close eye out for those first time visitors. Have fun being a greeter! Have fun being you!

3. Follow the Pastor in Dress Code

As a greeter, you always want to always represent Jesus with excellence in dress and appearance in your church. A good and simple rule of dress code is to look at what your pastors are wearing. Look at what your pastors are wearing on Sunday mornings, Wednesday nights or whenever your church has a service. This is a good simple rule. If you have any questions about dress code ask your pastors. They would love to see your passion in representing Jesus with excellence.

4. You are Walking, Talking Information Center

As a greeter, you not only extend a warm welcome to those coming through the doorways and surround them with the love of God, you also help keep the vision of the church alive. You are the walking, talking information centers of the church, and you should know everything there is to know about your church. An easy way to find new information is to look over your church bulletin before you begin to greet. This information usually helps to inform everyone of the church’s vision and mission, activities and upcoming events, service times, office hours, phone number and website, as well as tell them about the various ministry departments of the church. So always read over the bulletin and refer to it when people ask questions about upcoming events.

5. The Heart of A Servant  - Staying Faithful in Serving Jesus

As a greeter, you are part of something far bigger than yourself. You are working for the kingdom of God and changing peoples lives every time you serve as a greeter in your church. Don’t ever underestimate the importance of being faithful to your church and the vision God has given to your pastors.

Proverbs 28:20 (NKJV)

20 A faithful man (that means woman or child too!) will abound with blessings:

The bible clearly states that staying faithful and serving your church has rich rewards. You are a greeter for Jesus Christ and His Kingdom.

The greeter has a heart of a servant. The greeter usually is always the first one at the church and the last one to leave.  Always remember we are serving Jesus and His Kingdom in everything we do! Thank you for your service for the Kingdom! Thank you for being a greeter!
