The Zoe Life of God - Kenneth E. Hagin

WHY DID JESUS COME? To start a church? To improve humanity or give us a code of conduct? No, He came for one purpose: "I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly" (John 10:10).

The Greek word translated "life" in this verse is zoe, which means the God-kind of life.

The Bible says, "God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life" (John 3:16). And, "The wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Rom. 6:23).

This everlasting, eternal life Jesus came to give us is the nature of God. John 5:26 says, "As the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself."

In John 1:4 we get a hint of what this life will do for us: "In him was life; and the life was the light of men."Light stands for development. In other words, "In Him was life; and the life was the development of men." Or "In Him was zoe, and zoe was the development of men."

Receiving eternal life is the most miraculous incident in life. We call it the new birth. Some call it "getting religion," but that's not what it is.

It is God imparting His very nature, substance, and being to our human spirits. It is described by the Apostle Paul in Second Corinthians.

2 CORINTHIANS 5:17

17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

This is the miraculous recreating of man: "Therefore if any man be in Christ." Paul is not talking about the body—the outward man—or the mind. He's talking about the spirit—the inward man—who is in Christ.

In the new birth, our spirits are born of God. It is the life and nature of God coming into your spirit that makes the inward man a new creature.

The body is not new. This new man—the hidden man of the heart—is to dominate the body. The body is not to dominate you.

Paul not only talks about doing something with the body, but in Romans 12:2 he talks about renewing the mind. He is writing to people who are born again and Spirit filled, yet they need to do something with their bodies and minds.

One of the greatest needs of church members is to have renewed minds. Your mind becomes renewed with the Word of God.
We know this then: Man is a spirit. We know he is in the same class with God, because God is a Spirit and man was made to fellowship with God. We have not majored on this fact as we ought. Therefore, we've never been able to walk in the light of eternal life as we ought.

Zoe - Kenneth E. Hagin

"For as the Father hath life [zoe] in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life [zoe] in himself" (John 5:26). 

The Greek word translated "life" in our text today is zoe. It is pronounced zo-aye. 

Reading through the King James Version, or any English translation, when you see the word "life," you might think it's always talking about the same thing, but it isn't. Three other Greek words in the New Testament are translated as "life." 

Briefly, these words and their meanings are: "psuche," natural life, or human life; "bios," manner of life; and "anastrophe," behavior. 

Zoe means eternal life or God's life. It is God's nature. It is life as God has it - that which the Father has in Himself - and that which the Incarnate Son has in Himself. It is called eternal life, everlasting life, and sometimes just life in the Word of God. 

No matter what "manner of life" or "behavior" you have, it won't do you any good unless you have zoe! And that's what Jesus came to bring you! 

Confession: For as the Father hath zoe in Himself, so hath He given to the Son to have zoe in Himself. Jesus said, "I am come that you might have zoe, and that you might have it more abundantly." I have zoe in myself. And I have it more abundantly! 

Eternal Life (Zoe) - David Breed

ETERNAL LIFE is one of the most misunderstood subjects in the Bible. Most people, when they hear it, think of life after death for the Believer; but, if you would stop and think, even the sinner will have life after death.

The English Words ETERNAL LIFE or just LIFE are translated from the original Greek word Zoe. Zoe (Eternal Life) is the tangible substance that made Jesus different than any man on earth.

John 1:4 says, “In Him (Jesus) was life (ZOE); and the life (ZOE) was the light of men.” In John 5:26, Jesus said, “As the Father hath life (ZOE) in Himself, so hath He given to the Son to have life (ZOE) in Himself.” In John 10:10, Jesus said, “I am come that they (the believers) might have life (ZOE), and that they (the believers) might have it more abundantly.”

ZOE (Eternal Life) is the PRESENT DAY possession of the Born-Again Believer. The very second that Jesus Christ is made Lord of your life, you have become a new creation with the Divine Nature of God in your spirit. This Life (ZOE), when received, destroys the old nature, the Old Man that you were. You become a Man with the unlimited ability of Almighty God!

Take these Scriptures below, when taken into your spirit, they will change you from Glory to Glory and cause you to walk in the Victory of Jesus Christ!


ETERNAL LIFE - What It Is, What It Gives, What It Does

The problem with man...death (Thanatos: a spiritual condition)
Gen. 2:17; Rom 5:12; Eph 2:2-3 (death came)
Death is the spiritual nature of satan (through Adam); death does not mean nonexistence.

Eternal Life (ZOE) is still the life and nature of God.

John 1:4; John 5:26; Eph 4:17-18; Rev 22:1

Man is a spirit being in the same class of beings as God, angels, satan. Man can partake of this life.

Gen 1:27; Rom 8:29; 1 John 3:15; 1 Thess 5:23; 1 Pet 3:4; 2 Cor 4:16

The inward man of the spirit is the real you.

The purpose of Jesus coming was to create a new people with this life (ZOE).

John 10:10; John 5:40; John 20:30-31; John 5:24; 1 John 4:9; 1 John 1:1 

Whoever receives Jesus Christ is born again and receives this Life (ZOE).

1 John 5:11-12; 1 John 3:14; Rom 8:2-10; John 1:12-13; John 3:6 Born of God – in spirit.


ETERNAL LIFE (ZOE) does at least seven things for whoever receives it:

  1. Eternal Life (ZOE) makes us new beings, a new species. Eternal Life makes us God-men.
    Eph 2:15; Rom 6:6
    The old self has disappeared.

  2. Eternal Life (ZOE) makes us one with Christ. John 15:5; John 6:56; 1 Cor 6:17; Col 1:27

  3. Eternal Life (ZOE) delivers us from satan’s dominion.
    Rom 6;14; Col 1:13; Rom 8:2; 1 John 5:18; Eph 2:6; John 5:24; John 8:12; Acts 16:18

  4. Eternal Life (ZOE) makes us more than conquerors. Rom 8:37; Eph 1:22-23; Eph 2:6; Col 2:9-10

  5. Eternal Life (ZOE) gives us God’s ability. Phil 4:13; Gal 2:20; 2 Cor 13:4; John 14:10

  6. Eternal Life (ZOE) causes us to always be victorious. John 1:4-5; 2 Cor 2:14; 1 John 5:4

  7. Eternal Life (ZOE) when received in sufficient measure causes one to walk in divine health.
    Rom 8:11; John 7:38; Rom 5:10 (saved – sozo); Rom 8:2; Gal 6:8;
    Eph 5:30

The God-Kind of Life - Mark Hankins

I like the phrase "a sudden emergence of an entirely new and original element." We become partakers of the life of God suddenly! Through simple faith in Jesus Christ, the miracle of the new birth takes place in the spirit of the believer. Eternal life is a spiritual substance from heaven that is imparted in the spirit of a man. Eternal life is not simply life that goes on forever. It is true that the New Testament never forgets that God has promised men resurrection from the dead, but the essential of eternal life is not duration, it is quality. Eternal life is the injection into the realm of time of something of the realm of eternity. It is the coming into human life of something of the life of God.

Life As God Has It

God has given us a new quality of life in Christ. He has given us His own life, the very same life that raised Jesus from the dead (Ephesians 2:4-6). He has given us eternal life. God wants us to know that we have eternal life now. We are not trying to get it or some day in the sweet-by-and-by going to get it. We know we have a present possession we have eternal life. The gift of God is eternal life (Romans 6:23). What a great gift God has given us in Christ! The Greek word in the New Testament for life or eternal life is zoe. This life is the primary purpose Jesus came. Jesus said, "I am come that you might have life, and that you might have it more abundantly," John 10:10. This life is a spiritual substance that flows in heaven from the throne of God; it flows like a river (John 7:37-39). God is overflowing with this life. You and I can have more and more of this life flowing in us. We can have this life in ever-increasing measures as we are filled with the Word of God and the Holy Spirit. We can walk in the light of this life and in the consciousness of what we have in Christ as we learn more and more of the "words of this life" (Acts 5:20).

Eternal Life—Present Actual Possession

I Like W.E. Vine's definition of the word "zoe" (eternal life, everlasting life, or life). It is life as a principle...life in the absolute sense, as God has it, that which the Father has in Himself and which He gave to the incarnate Son to have in Himself (John 5:26). It is what the Son manifested in the world (1 John 1:1,2). From this life man has become alienated through the fall and of this life men become partakers through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, who becomes its author to all who trust in Him. The life He gives, He maintains. Eternal life is the present actual possession of the believer because of his relationship with Christ, and that it will one day extend its domain to the sphere of the body is assured by the resurrection of Christ.

Summary Points: But the essential of eternal life is not duration, it is quality. God has given us a new quality of life in Christ. This life is the primary purpose Jesus came.
